Only in situations where the act is overt or brazen would you be expected to step in. If you have never worked in retail, you will be very surprised to learn that often employees are trained not to investigate or stop customers if they suspect them of shoplifting. I remember being instructed by managers on what to do (and what not to do) if I suspected someone of shoplifting. I worked in retail summers during college at a local mall. I am an attorney, but my life experience has given me perspectives that I am able to draw from to the benefit of my clients. Today I am giving thanks for my humble beginnings in retail.
